Chris How­lett

 

Chris How­lett is a recent gradu­ate of the Aus­tralian National Academy of Music where he com­pleted his stud­ies after exten­ded peri­ods of study in both Vienna with Howard Penny and in Lon­don with Richard Lester, prin­cipal cel­list of the Cham­ber Orches­tra of Europe.

Chris has been described as “…one of Australia’s finest emer­ging tal­ents” and has been a final­ist and prize win­ner at a num­ber of cham­ber music com­pet­i­tions includ­ing the pres­ti­gi­ous Trio di Trieste Inter­na­tional Com­pet­i­tion.   As a cham­ber musi­cian he holds one of the busiest sched­ules in Mel­bourne per­form­ing reg­u­larly over 40 recit­als a year around Aus­tralia and Europe.

Chris has per­formed as soloist, per­form­ing con­certi with both sym­phonic and cham­ber orches­tras in Milan, Rome, Paris, Esto­nia and Mel­bourne and has just returned from a 20-concert tour of China.  In recital he per­forms reg­u­larly as part of the Mel­bourne Recital Centre Series pro­gram and has per­formed inter­na­tion­ally in series in Lon­don and Dubai.  In 2013 his solo sched­ule increases with solo recit­als in Mel­bourne and Sydney along side the launch of his first solo album.

Chris is Fest­ival Dir­ector of the San­guine Estate Music Fest­ival, Artistic Dir­ector of the 3MBS/Knox Recital Series, Vice Chair­man of 3MBS and dir­ector of an inter­na­tional tour­ing com­pany that tours China regularly.

Chris per­forms on a Thomas Kennedy Eng­lish Cello made in 1820 and would like to thank those who have so gen­er­ously sup­por­ted him in its purchase.
